The University of Messina celebrated the UniMe Sustainability Day 2026 with great participation. This initiative, promoted within the activities of the University Sustainability Commission (RUS), confirmed the University's central role in the global debate on ecological transition. The event, coordinated by Prof. Salvatore Magazù, Full Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Messina, focused on the thematic area of “Climate Change”, offering a rigorous scientific perspective on contemporary environmental challenges.
The meeting, held in Room 4 of the Law Department at the Rectorate, served as a significant moment of academic discussion and institutional reflection, reaffirming the commitment of the city and the University to the study of climate models and meteorological forecasting techniques, which are fundamental assets for regional resilience.
The technical discussion regarding environmental and satellite-based monitoring and physical-numerical modeling was of great relevance. The speakers highlighted how a deep understanding of complex systems is a necessary precondition for implementing effective sustainability policies. The event allowed for the concrete implementation of the 2030 Agenda goals, particularly Goal 13 “Climate Action”, through the presentation of advanced studies, including the parametric resonance climate model.
Throughout the morning, various speakers offered an interdisciplinary perspective on meteorology and climate change topics: Prof. Salvatore Magazù, who provided the introduction; Prof. Maria Teresa Caccamo, who reported on climate reconstruction and evolution; Dr. D. De Domenico, who delved into atmospheric and geophysical monitoring for territorial sustainability; Dr. K. Aragona, who spoke on the physics of complex systems; Dr. A. Sturniolo, who analyzed the difficulties in formulating long-term weather forecasts; and Dr. A. Boncaldo, who illustrated the parametric resonance climate model.
The activities concluded with a positive assessment, confirming the importance of initiatives that foster dialogue between the scientific community, institutions, and students, promoting a culture of awareness, prevention, and sustainability as a transversal value for the future of the community.
