National Workshop on Scientific Journalism at the University of Messina with VIP RAI Journalists

A new high-profile event with VIP Journalists in Messina: the national workshop, open to the public, entitled “Scientific Journalism Nowadays” will take place on 13 January 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at the University of Messina in the Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti Hall (Piazza Pugliatti 1).

The event is organized by Prof. Salvatore Magazù of MIFT (Department of Mathematical, Computer, Physical and Earth Sciences), by Byto, the national communication company of journalist and parliamentary spokesperson Antonio Ivan Bellantoni, by ANSA and Corriere.it journalist Gianluca Rossellini, and by the Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti.

On this occasion, three well-known RAI journalists will deliver Lectio Magistralis speeches: Marco Frittella, Editorial Director of Rai Libri and former TG1 and “Unomattina” presenter; Barbara Carfagna, TG1 presenter and author-host of “Codice: la vita è digitale” on Rai Uno; Romolo Sticchi, TG3 Special Correspondent and editor of “Pixel” on Rai Tre.

The panel of speakers also includes: Carmelo Picciotto (President of Confcommercio Messina); Giuseppe Ruggeri (Physician and Journalist); Giovanni Pioggia (Engineer and Head of Irib-CNR Messina); Dimitri Salonia (Artist and Science Communicator); Maria Teresa Caccamo (MIFT Researcher); Prof. Salvatore Magazù; Gianluca Rossellini; Antonio Ivan Bellantoni.

The event is organized in collaboration with the University of Messina, ANSA, SIF (Italian Physical Society), AIF (Association for Physics Teaching), Ristorante Salotto Fellini, Fipe (Italian Federation of Public Services), Lisciotto Viaggi, CISFA (Interuniversity Consortium of Applied Physical Sciences), Motostore D’Arrigo Honda, Confcommercio Messina, Caronte&Tourist, Residence Cine Apollo, Gruppo Lem Tipografia, Fondazione Salonia and Ristorante Il Siciliano.

RAI journalists Frittella, Carfagna and Sticchi will receive a Professional Merit Award during the event, whose main theme will be “scientific journalism as a leading actor in cultural production and economic development of our society, especially in an era marked by the spread of fake news on crucial topics related to scientific research and collective decision-making”.
